Becoming a SWAG Driver

Would you like to become a SWAG driver? The people we help value the personal service we provide and are very appreciative of our support often during difficult times. You will typically be called upon once or twice a month to collect a client from their home in Sway and drive them in your car to either their hospital or doctor's appointment.

We cover all of the major hospitals & clinics that the local GP practice use for both diagnostic & consultancy referrals. We can readily accommodate drivers who can't make certain times or dates and you can also tell us if there are particular hospitals or length of journeys that you would prefer not to undertake.

SWAG driver

We currently pay a 50p per mile allowance towards your running costs, which is the maximum allowable under HMRC rules without having to make a tax declaration.

To register you as a SWAG driver we need to obtain some information from you:

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS - previously the CRB): Some of our clients are vulnerable, so it is necessary for our drivers to be DBS approved. We deal with this and pay the necessary administration charges.
  • Driver's Annual Return: We need to keep records for insurance purposes showing that we have checked that all our driver's details remain current. We will ask you each year to confirm that your road fund licence is current, that your current insurance company knows that you are a volunteer driver and that you are not aware of any medical or physical condition that would preclude you from remaining a volunteer driver. If you are aged 75 or over then please also see our Older Drivers Policy Statement here.

MORE INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEER DRIVERS >> ANNUAL RETURN FORM >>

If you are a SWAG driver we will need to hold some of your personal information on our database. See our Data Privacy Policy and your rights here.

If you would like to sign up as a SWAG driver contact us on 01590 681 500 or email us at info@swaghants.org.uk
